NOTABLE PEOPLE

Dr. Blancard Fosgate

Born 1809, died 1887.

Dr. Blanchard Fosgate was the physician at the Auburn Prison.
He was also a Trustee of the Auburn Academy II for twenty two years.
The Fosgate residence was on South Street, next to Fred Fay's.
Fred bought the Fosgate house and tore it down,
along with his own house, in order to build Queen's Court.

Dr. Fosgate was the first person to start an account when the
Auburn Savings Institution (bank) opened on May 19, 1849.
His deposit was $50. He was also the only person
to open an account on the bank's first day in business.

The Fosgate lot is located in the Forest Lawn section of the cemetery.
