Death Of J. A. Adams

Joseph A. Adams, an old resident of this city, died at the family home, No. 71 Fulton Street, at 1 o'clock this morning, aged 77 years. For the past 10 years the deceased had been in poor health but he has been able to be about. For two weeks past, however, he failed rapidly and the end was not unexpected.

During his earlier life Mr. Adams was a prominent architect and builder in this city and many of the older buildings were designed and built by him. He was a veteran of he Civil war, serving with the Third New York Light Artillery, and was formerly a member of the Crocker post, G. A. R. In his younger days he was also prominent among the volunteer firemen.

Besides his widow, Mrs. Olive A. Adams, the deceased is survived by two daughters, Miss Jennie Adams, of this city, and Miss Ida M. Adams, of New York, and one son, Charles G. Adams, secretary of the Business Men's association.

Funeral of J. A. Adams

The funeral of Joseph A. Adams, father of Charles G. Adams, secretary of the Business Men's association, was held at the latter's home, No. 10 Nelson street and was largely attended. Rev. F. W. Palmer, of the Central Presbyterian church, officiated. A quartette composed of Misses Taylor and Cuykendall and Messrs. Healey and Hemingway sang two selections, "Crossing the Bar" and "Jesus, My Saviour, Look Down on Me." The bearers were S. J. Westfall, I. W. Smith, William Anderson, E. E. Hawkins, Sylvester Morgan, and Charles. W. Miles. The remains were placed in the receiving vault at Fort Hill.
